On the 19th of November the world celebrated the Universal Children Day.
Cambodia's population in made of 70% of people below 17 years of age. That's why you see so many kids around.And probably this is the reason why you can periodically read on the local press that someone ( Khmer or foreigner alike) has been arrested for sexual abuse on a minor.
The Royal Government started to get tough on kids' abusers on 2003, following years of complaints from NGOs and foreign governments, and now who is caught here for "debauchery" can be sent home to serve time there, according to special memorandums of understanding between local authorities and many western governments, USA and Germany included. Knowing how hard could be the life of a convicted pedo into a US or a German jail, we hope the tourists will think twice before even considering to abuse a local kid.
